about

In 2009 Denver, GL3 and I asked longtime friend and collaborator, Daniel Kopton, to join Allegra Gellar on drums. The initial rehearsals involved trying to learn the original album arrangements of songs from 'The Light From Cakes' and 'Cassette' as a full band with acoustic drums. The process wasn't very fun and nobody was feeling particularly creative. At some point, I believe while working on a new song, "Maybe You Won", we decided to let go of any preconceived notion of an Allegra Gellar sound and just made whatever noise the four us naturally generated together in Dan's basement. The result was instantaneously exciting. Over the next few months we wrote several new songs including "Choose A Machine" and "Burning of a Witch" while also revamping older tracks like "Post Rock Idle" (renamed "Post-Rock Idol"), "Judas, Yesenia", and "Malled." The resulting collection of songs was far more shoegaze and post-rock inspired than the usual indie-folktronic we made as Allegra Gellar. Since Denver, GL3, and I were simultaneously, in our home studio, without Dan, working on more traditional AG-sounding songs that would become the next Allegra Gellar album, 'The Secret Plans of Men', we decided to call this new live band something else. After the inevitably exhausting band meetings and debates over a new name we decided on International Grey. It's from the documentary "Helvetica" if you're interested. International Grey went into the studio for one day, made one music video, played exactly one live show, and promptly broke up. I'm not even sure of the reasons anymore, but it ended as quickly as it began. Allegra Gellar became Allegra Gellar again, finished 'The Secret Plans of Men' and then we dissolved that band too. After sitting on these three finished (or mostly finished) songs for a decade I have decided to go ahead and release them as Allegra Gellar because International Grey was Allegra Gellar and Allegra Gellar was International Grey. One was just a reflection of the other and at the time I wasn't sure which was my real band and which was some alternate reality anti-band. I'm still not sure. So, let's let them exist together, finally.

Allegra Gellar Los Angeles, California

Jeremy Wilkins, Denver Bon, and GL3 were Allegra Gellar. Pez played bass from 2004-2006 and Olive played drums for a bit in 2007-2008. Dan played drums here and there. They made indie-rock, indie-folk, and folktronic music from 2003 till 2012.

In 2012 they completed their final album, The Secret Plans Of Men, and finally satisfied with what they'd done, promptly disbanded.
